The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

  • Flood Advisory for…
    Western Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina…
    Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina…
  • Until 1100 PM EDT.
  • At 757 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
    heavy rain. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly
    in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have
    fallen since early this morning.

Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Boone, Jefferson, West Jefferson, Blowing Rock, Beech Mountain,
Todd and Ashland.

Additional rainfall of 0.5 to 1.5 inches is expected over the area
through this evening. This additional rain will result in minor
flooding.

This includes the following streams and drainages…
Big Laurel Creek, Cut Laurel Creek, Brushy Fork, Beaverdam Creek,
Call Creek, Cove Creek, Beech Creek and Beaver Creek.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or
ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather
