Fatal fire in Deep Gap on Saturday morning

UPDATE –

After midnight on Sunday March 10th, drastically high winds reignited the fire in the home. Despite the efforts from Deep Gap Fire departments and additional units from Boone Fire, Stewart Simmons Fire, Meat Camp Fire, Cove Creek Fire, Watauga County Fire Marshal’s office, Watauga County Rescue Squad and Watauga Medics. The home was a total loss. Final units cleared the scene 8 hours after the second response to the home. Additional information will follow after the investigation has been completed.

A Deep Gap homeowner was found deceased after an early Saturday morning fire.

Around 4:53 am Deep Gap Fire responded to a structure fire at 143 Dragonfly Lane. There was one person home at the initial time of the fire, according to Emma Ward with the Watauga County Fire Marshal's Office. The homeowner was found deceased after the completion of the interior search, Ward also noted.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time. More information will be released as it becomes available.

Deep Gap Fire, Boone Fire, Stewart Simmons Fire, Watauga Rescue, Watauga Medics, Watauga County Fire Marshal's Office, and Watauga County Sheriff's Office all responded to the scene.
