Eight individuals face narcotics charges after investigation by Avery County Sheriff’s Office

On August 9, 2024, the Avery County Sheriff’s Office made the following arrest as the result of a joint investigation with the Carter County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee. 

Ben Taylor, age 37 of Newland, NC was arrested for Felony Conspiracy to Sell and Deliver a Schedule III and is being held in the Avery County Detention Facility on a $25,000 secured bond.

Austin Neal Goins, age 30 of Banner Elk, NC was arrested for Felony Conspiracy to Sell and Deliver a Schedule III and Conspiracy to Sell and Delivery Methamphetamine and is being held in the Avery County Detention Facility on a $25,000 secured bond.

Jason Micheal Jordan, age 38 of Newland, NC was arrested for Felony Conspiracy to Sell and Deliver a Schedule III and Conspiracy to Sell and Delivery Methamphetamine and is being held in the Avery County Detention Facility on a $25,000 secured bond

Charles Timothy Smith, age 42 of Newland, NC was arrested for Possession With Intent to Sell and Delivery methamphetamine and is being held in the Avery County Detention Facility on a $25,000 secured bond.

Melody Edminston, age 49 of Newland, NC was arrested for Possession With Intent to Sell and Delivery methamphetamine and is being held in the Avery County Detention Facility on a $25,000 secured bond.

Johnny Brown Hughes, age 48 of Newland, NC was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and is being held in the Avery County Detention Facility on a $10,000 secured bond.

Rebecca Michelle Jones, age 45 of Newland, NC was arrested for Possession With Intent to Sell and Delivery methamphetamine and is being held in the Avery County Detention Facility on a $25,000 secured bond.

Natasha Nicole Sells, age 38 of Spruce Pine, NC Felony Conspiracy to Sell and Deliver a Schedule III  and is being held in the Avery County Detention Facility on a $10,000 secured bond.

Additional arrests are still pending in this investigation.
