In the latest drought update for North Carolina, portions of the High Country have found some relief.
Watauga's north-western section of the county remains in abnormally dry status, while the rest of the county is drought-free.
All of Ashe County remains abnormally dry.
A small section in Avery County, in the northern section, remains in abnormally dry status.

Drought categories are based on streamflow, groundwater levels, the amount of water stored in reservoirs, soil moisture, the time of year, and other relevant factors for assessing the extent and severity of dry conditions.
