Drift Smoke Entering High Country From Wildfires

Last Updated on February 17, 2023 9:29 am

The Watauga Roads social media outlets and WataugaOnline.com have received several reports of smoke in the area on Tuesday morning. Taylor Marsh, Watauga County Assistant Fire Marshall, tells WataugaOnline.com that it appears to be drift smoke from a fire in Burke County. Wildfires in southwestern North Carolina are also funneling smoke across other mountain locations.

Marsh reminds area residents that if you see smoke that appears to be thicker than drift smoke then don't hesitate to report it to 911. A burning ban is in effect for Watauga and 24 other mountain counties until further notice.
