The construction of a safety enhancement wall along a stretch of Highway 421, just below the Watauga/Wilkes line, has started.
The project is one mile in length and is slated to run through the end of the year, David Uchiyama with NCDOT tells WataugaOnline.com exclusively on Thursday evening.
One lane is closed in each direction between the northbound and southbound lanes, 1/2 mile north of Fall Creek Road in Wilkes County.
Uchiyama also tells WataugaOnline.com that the runaway truck ramp will remain open.
