Traffic was delayed on 421 near the Watauga/Wilkes line on Saturday afternoon due to a car fire with a northbound vehicle. A witness on the scene tells WataugaRoads.com that the three passengers made it out safely before the car became totally engulfed. Traffic was impacted for a little over an hour. Below are the updates as they happen and pictures from the scene.
4:26pm – car fire on 421 near the Wilkes/Watauga line. Expect delays in that area as lanes are shut down according to a witness on the scene.
4:46pm – southbound traffic is down to one lane, both north bound lanes are still blocked per witness on the scene.
5:14pm – traffic is alternating one lane at a time in both directions.
5:37pm – traffic is moving slow in the area still. According to a witness on the scene the passengers in the car were not injured and everyone made it out before becoming totally engulfed. Fire department just cleared the scene at 5:39pm.
