A Boone Police officer was injured Wednesday morning after a suspect attacked him during a trespassing call on Brookhollow Road, according to the Boone Police Department.
At approximately 11:42 a.m. on May 14, an officer responded to the area of 300 Brookhollow Road after receiving information that Jeremy John Mojica, 36, was trespassing in the area. The officer was familiar with Mojica and located him shortly after arriving.
While attempting to take Mojica into custody on the trespassing violation, Mojica attacked the officer. A physical altercation followed, during which the officer was injured. Mojica then attempted to flee on foot.
Despite being injured, the officer pursued Mojica while calling for additional assistance. Responding officers and emergency personnel located Mojica a short time later attempting to conceal himself in brush and trees. The injured officer was transported to Watauga Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.
Mojica was charged with one count of felony assault on a law enforcement officer, one count of felony resisting a public officer, one count of felony littering, two counts of misdemeanor second-degree trespassing, one count of misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and one count of misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
He was issued a $100,000 secured bond and given a court date of July 8, 2026.
“Our officers handle calls like this every day, and most are resolved without incident. This case is a reminder that even routine calls can become dangerous very quickly,” said Chief Daniel Duckworth. “I am proud of the professionalism and courage shown by our officer and grateful for the quick response from our public safety and medical partners.”
The Boone Police Department extended its appreciation to the Watauga County Sheriff's Office, Boone Fire Department, Watauga County EMS, and Watauga Medical Center for their response and assistance.
