Boomer Man Faces $1 Million Bond On Methamphetamine Trafficking Charges Following Ashe County Investigation

JEFFERSON — Ashe County Sheriff B. Phil Howell has announced the arrest of a Boomer man on multiple methamphetamine trafficking and related charges following a joint investigation with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

Yohond Curtis McKeithan, 51, of Boomer, NC, is being held in the Wilkes County Detention Center under a secured $1,000,000 bond.

In early 2026, Ashe County Sheriff's Office detectives and NCSBI agents investigated McKeithan's illegal drug activities. The investigation lasted several weeks and yielded multiple methamphetamine seizures.

The investigation concluded with a traffic stop in the Fleetwood area on February 27, 2026. Ashe County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Greene, K9 Deputy Johnson, and Deputy Retezatu stopped McKeithan for registration and equipment violations. K9 Condor performed an open-air sniff and positively alerted on McKeithan's SUV. A search of the vehicle yielded approximately 251 grams of methamphetamine and $2,293 in cash. A juvenile was also present in the vehicle.

During the course of the investigation, a total of 431.2 grams of methamphetamine and $2,293 in U.S. currency were seized.

McKeithan was charged with the following offenses:

  • 6 Counts of Trafficking Methamphetamine, 28–200 grams
  • 2 Counts of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, 200–400 grams
  • Conspiracy to Sell Methamphetamine
  • Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Methamphetamine
