Per Banner Elk Police: ALL ROADS INTO BANNER ELK ARE EFFECTIVELY CLOSED FOR THE REMAINDER OF TODAY, possibly longer pending repairs.
184 is closed at Dobbins for repairs. Dobbins Road is closed. Hickory Nut Gap is closed due to degradation and instability. 194 from Elk Park to Valle Crucis is degrading quickly and reserved for emergency vehicles only. Access from Beech Mountain is possible with caution and this may change quickly.
Conditions are changing rapidly and repair timelines are unknown.

For those without power to your home, please turn off your main breaker, both for generator safety and for re-energizing of the power grid. Power can move from the generator up the line, creating a dangerous scenario to line workers. As power moves back to your home, appliances and items can be damaged due to surges.
