The Watauga County Sheriff's Office would once again like to remind the public to be aware of scammers.
Another scam making the rounds involves getting a call from someone claiming to be law enforcement. They tell you that a family member or loved one has been in an accident and has been charged. They will ask you for bail money to bail your loved one out of jail.
These scams are based on personal information that the scammer has obtained about you and your family. Please be cautious and verify all information.
Again, no law enforcement agency will ever ask you to purchase gift cards or bitcoin to make payment.
All of these scams seem to target elderly people, so please pass this message along to your elder family members and friends who may not use social media. Help us get the word out there.
