Boone, NC- The Watauga County Children’s Council saw a banner year in 2024 as they continue their championing for early childhood by building a strong foundation for children's learning and development. By strengthening families, the early childhood system, and the wider community, the Children’s Council cast a wide net into all parts of our county and have seen their impact move into an all-time high.

The Children’s Council carries out this mission by:

  • administering Smart Start and NC Pre-kindergarten funds to support programs to benefit children age 0-5 years and their families.
  • convening community stakeholders to develop programs and services that support children and families.
  • serving as a voice for the early childhood community.
  • educating the community on the critical needs of young children and helps develop solutions.

In addition to the 100’s of families served through their programming, the Children’s Council also delivered over 75,000 diapers to those in need, helped distribute over 1,100 books through Dolly Parton Imagination Library, created and implemented a fatherhood-based support group, (Elevated Dads) and partnered with Blue Cross Blue Shield to create a Home-Based Child-Care Support Group.
