US and NC Flags To Half-Staff Through Sunset May 15 In Honor Of Passing of Chief Wilbert Lee Ammons

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered immediately to half-staff in tribute to Reverend and Coharie Indian Tribe Chief Wilbert Lee Ammons.

Chief Ammons died May 11, 2018; the Chief of the Coharie Indian Tribe and a WWII Army veteran. He served as pastor for over 30 years at Mt. Sinia Holiness Church in Waccamaw-Siouan Indian Community of “Buck Head” and was a long-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

Flags should remain at half-staff until sunset on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.
