Two separate overnight power outages impacted opposite portions of the county. The first outage impacted Blue Ridge Energy members in the Foscoe and Valle Crucis communities. That outage, which began at 1:21am, affected 1,433 members and was caused by a fallen tree.

The second outage in the Bamboo Road area was the result of a broken switch and insulator. That outage affected 53 members. Line technicians had all power restored by 6:33am, according to Blue Ridge Energy.

Another outage at midday is impacting members in the far western portion of the county. As of 12:05pm, 31 members are affected according to the Blue Ridge Energy outage map.

UPDATE 1:34pm:

Bamboo Road area: an outage at 1 location affecting 694 members due to a fallen tree

2. New River Hills area: an outage in four locations affecting 351 members due to a fallen tree

3. Hattie Hill Road area: an outage affecting 99 members due to a fallen tree

4. Timber Ridge area: an outage affecting 68 members due to a fallen tree

At 1:17 pm today, there are about 244 members in Watauga experiencing outages. The outages are scattered across the county as wind gusts are causing trees to fall on power lines, resulting in outages.

Members should call Blue Ridge Energy’s PowerLine to report outages: 1-800-448-2383. For safety, no one except a trained line technician should go near a downed power line. It could still be energized and therefore dangerous or even deadly.
