Tuesday Afternoon Accident In Boone Involving Motorcycle Leads To Driver Being Airlifted

Update Thursday Sept 5 – Boone Police have released the name of the motorcycle driver. Mary Jo Shane, 66, of Big Hill Road was found unresponsive at the scene, according to the report. She was flown to Johnson City Medical Center where she passed away from injuries sustained in the collision. Boone Police Department also noted, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Ms. Shane.”


At approximately 2:50 pm, Boone Police, Boone Fire and Watauga Medics responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of East King St. and Forest Hills Drive, according to a report from Boone Police.

A 2010 Toyota Tacoma, operated by Vinh Nguyen, 61 of Boone Trail, North Wilkesboro was stationary at the traffic light when a 2012 Harley Davidson traveling east, nearing the intersection, failed to reduce speed.

The motorcycle collided with the rear of the truck, according to the report.

The single occupant of the motorcycle was airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Boone Police are not releasing the identity of the driver at this time as the investigation is on-going.

No charges have been filed at this time and no additional information is available pending the conclusion of the investigation.
