BOONE, N.C. – June 25, 2026 – The Town of Boone will enact Stage 2 Water Restrictions
effective July 1, 2026, due to ongoing extreme drought conditions. The decision comes following
a recommendation from Town of Boone Public Works staff, who have continuously monitored
the Town's water supply sources throughout the drought.
Stage 2 Water Restrictions
Under Stage 2 Water Restrictions, residential and commercial Town of Boone water customers
are prohibited from engaging in the following activities unless specifically authorized by the Town
of Boone pursuant to § 50.309:

  • Watering lawns, landscaping, gardens, parks, athletic fields, and golf courses, except
    under limited approved conditions.
  • Installing new landscaping that requires irrigation; drought-tolerant and native
    plantings are encouraged.
  • Filling or refilling swimming pools, hot tubs, spas, and wading pools.
  • Washing vehicles, boats, airplanes, and other equipment unless a water reclamation
    or reuse system is used.
  • Washing driveways, sidewalks, buildings, parking lots, and other outdoor surfaces.
  • Using water from fire hydrants for non-emergency purposes.
  • Operating ornamental fountains, ponds, and similar water features.
  • Serving drinking water in restaurants unless requested by the customer.
  • Operating water-cooled equipment that does not recycle water, except when
    medically necessary.
  • Using washable dishes and utensils in commercial food establishments when
disposable or biodegradable alternatives are available and can be used effectively.
  • Any unnecessary or intentional waste of water.

The Town of Boone may impose civil penalties for violations of these mandatory restrictions. At
this time, no water-use limits or surcharges have been imposed; however, this may change
    depending on future drought conditions.
  • Town of Boone water customers with questions regarding these restrictions are encouraged to
contact the Town of Boone Public Utilities Department at (828) 268-6250 or visit
    www.boonenc.gov/publicworks for additional information.
