Foscoe Home Team has relocated to a new, larger facility in Banner Elk, nearly two years after opening in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
The nonprofit moved into 5004 NC Highway 105 on Aug. 18, occupying the majority of the 10,000-square-foot building, which it shares with Goodpeople Thrift and The Art of Banner Elk. Foscoe Home Team continues to provide free food, clothing, household items and emergency living supplies to High Country residents in need, operating as a client-choice facility where visitors select their own items.
The new location includes commercial refrigerators and freezers that increase cold and frozen food storage capacity by a factor of seven, along with additional shelf space for more selections.
Founder and executive director Sherrye Trice said the new location represents “a culmination of 691 days of gratitude” since the organization first opened after Hurricane Helene.
On its first day in the new space, the organization served 119 individuals from 43 households, including 74 adults and seniors, 38 children under 18 and seven infants. Ten of the 43 households received water because they lacked access to clean water at home.
Goodpeople Thrift, a new thrift store benefiting Foscoe Home Team, is set to open in mid-September. The Art of Banner Elk, a local artist collective featuring more than 15 area artists, also operates from the same location.
