There have been numerous rumors and reports on Social Media of persons in the County of people saying that they have saw bodies and floating bodies. At present the death toll in Avery County is at 4 as a result of Hurricane Helene. If anyone sees a body or something they think might be a body contact the Avery County Helene Hot-line at 828-733-8273 between the hours of 9:00 am-5:00 pm daily. After hours or if no answer contact the Avery County Communications Center at 828-733-5855.
This statement comes after much spread accusations of people reporting on social media and in the community that people are “seeing/finding bodies” throughout the county. To hopefully bring down unnecessary tension from citizens and those family/friends that live in the area. All reports of any possible sightings are being followed up on by Emergency Services Units. To reaffirm at present Avery County has four (4) deceased persons and three (3) missing persons reports.
