UPDATED – Missing Hiker Found and Safely Removed from China Creek Trail
Update Sunday Feb 10 12:51 – Mr. Sanady has been located uninjured, according to Watauga County Emergency Management. He is in a very rugged area well off the trail. Rescuers are facing challenges due to the weather and terrain. Helicopter extrication is not going to be possible. More information as it becomes available.
The search for a missing hiker is continuing Sunday, after being postponed overnight.
Crews from Blowing Rock Fire, Watauga Emergency Management, Blowing Rock PD, Linville Central spent Saturday night searching for an overdue hiker on the China Creek Trail near Blowing Rock, according to social media post by Watauga County Communications just after 9 pm. Collettsville Fire was also helping from the trail end side with drones and personnel, according to the post. Search efforts were called for the night, according to a post at 4:34 am, and resumed on Sunday morning.
Crews are searching for Frank Senady, age 67. Senady is considered to be an experienced hiker but the trail is considered to be extremely rugged and descends several hundred feet before ending on Johns River Road.
