With another 2012-2013 winter day off for children in the Watauga County public school system on Tuesday February 19, there were a lot of questions into the Watauga Roads facebook page: How many days have been missed? Would there/will there be Saturday school? When are children schedule to get out for the year?

WataugaRoads.com passed along those questions to Marshall Ashcraft, Public Information Director for Watauga County Schools, following is his reply in an email:

“We have missed nine days as of today (Tuesday Feb 19). We are prepared to miss at least one more day (if that becomes necessary) before we consider using a Saturday to make up lost time.

To allow for advance notice to families, we do not plan to use a Saturday opening unless we miss a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of that week. If we do open on a Saturday, it will be an early release day, with grades K-8 dismissing at 12:00 and the high school at 1:00. Lunch will be served and buses will run their usual routes.

Our calendar changes are posted in the calendar links on the website as they occur. The last day of school for students is now set for June 4th.”
