School Bus Accident, No Injuries Per Police

An accident involving a school bus near Daniel Boone Inn is causing major traffic delays this morning. According to Boone Police all students are going to Hardin Park on another bus, the bus involved is #16. There are no injuries according to Boone Police. Parents are asked to go to Hardin Park.

According to scanner dispatch at 8:23am, Boone Fire Department has cleared the scene. Expect congestion delays in that area for a while. 8:26am – Boone Police report the intersection is back open.


*Update 11:58am – according to Marshall Ashcraft with Watauga County Schools, the accident occurred at the intersection of King St. and Councill Street as the bus was turning from King onto Councill. No injuries to students or to driver of either vehicle. Students were transported to school by another bus but the bus involved was driven from the scene.


*Update 1:37pm – According to the Watauga Democrat the driver of the other vehicle was Watauga County Sheriff's Detective Richard Ward. The bus driver, Rebecca Corder, was cited with failure to yield right of way.


UPDATED 5:49pm – Sheriff Len Hagaman tells WataugaRoads.com that the patrol vehicle driven by Detective Richard Ward is probably a total loss. The Sheriff also adds that Det. Ward and the bus driver were sent to Urgent Care for evaluation. He also expressed how glad he is that no one was hurt.
