SPRUCE PINE, N.C. — The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is providing details regarding an incident that occurred earlier today while Special Agents were serving an arrest warrant near 12021 NC Highway 226 in Spruce Pine.
A team of Special Agents, in cooperation with Spruce Pine Police Department, was serving an arrest warrant on a subject charged with two counts of Statutory Sex Offense with a child 15 years or younger and one count of Statutory Rape of a child 15 years or younger. When approached by the Special Agents, the suspect drew a concealed weapon and sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The discharged round also struck an SBI Special Agent in his protective vest.
SBI agents immediately rendered medical aid and secured the scene. The suspect was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
The suspect is identified as Timothy Alan Hoilman (DOB 06/22/1973).
The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office and the Spruce Pine Police Department responded to the scene and assisted.
