5:45am – here are reports from Watauga Communications in the 4am hour:
“US Hwy 421 N Zionville from about bottom of Brown hill to line is starting to get slick
Officers report that roads are clear on mains but secondaries becoming snow covered. DOT is out. Fairly significant snowfall for now”
6:30am – main and secondary roads are snow covered according to incoming reports and Watauga Communications dispatch office.
7:15am – continued windy this morning. Peak wind gusts of 36 mph in Boone at 7:15am, wind chills in the mid teens.
9am – many main roads have improved since 7am. Secondary roads are still mostly fully or partially covered per incoming reports.
25 degrees, wind chill of 9 above and snowing in Boone at 10:30am
2pm – Tree down blocking the roadway on Ridgewood off of Queen St. Tree took down some power lines so we have a power outage in the area also.
