2:20pm – The rock slide is cleared and all travel lanes are back open.
1:30pm – Caprice Cheek, NCDOT Engineering Technician, tells WataugaRoads.com/WataugaOnline.com that work continues to open up the road totally, and it is expected to be open sometime this afternoon. She also adds other reports of extended closures into the late night or even into weeks later are inaccurate. Motorist are advised to detour around the area until it is open totally.
Motorist on highway 321 near the Watauga/Caldwell line are experience long delays and being detoured after a morning rock slide just past Green Park Inn on the Caldwell side. According to NCDOT both lanes are blocked and crews are working to clear slide debris. All traffic is being held at this time in order to allow work to be performed as safely and as quickly as possible. Further updates will be released as conditions improve.
