Road/Snow Reports March 5

Some of the snow & road reports as they come into the facebook/twitter pages, text and email.

4:45am- via twitter “@WataugaRoads snow beginning to stick to roads along Hwy 105”

4:52am – via twitter “snow starting to accumulate in boone. sticking to the roads pretty good @WataugaRoads”

4:58am via twitter – approx. 2 and a half inches so far on 105 Bypass. Roads completely covered.

Blowing snow is causing decreasing visibility in some spots.

6:25am – via facebook “we got abt 3inches of snow at fleetwood, driving to work from 221 to 421 seems not bad, some spots have a lot of snow some just wet be carefull anyway !!!”

6:35am per fb – “Anyone coming up from Lenoir to Blowing Rock on 321 …be careful! Its not too slick but there's a mix of sleet, rain & snow so it's kinda hard to see in some spots.”

6:47am – still getting reports of blowing snow and white out conditions.

6:52am – Other than blowing snow most of the major routes are reported in good shape.

6:58am – via fb – Blowing Rock to Hickory on 321 is clear after you make the first couple of turns about a half mile past the Green Park.. Then its just wet road

6:58am – via fb – Upper part of Meat Camp RD is snow covered…Lower part is covered in places

7am via fb – I drove in from Vilas (around the 321-421 split – and they have snow on them, but it is that fluffy kid of snow that melts easily, so it wasn't horrible. Boone Mtn. is not great if you're headed straing into town and not turning right there…..and I can't say on into town was great. Rivers St. on ASU Campus is just wet.

7:50am- roads in Valle Crucis and Sugar Grove mostly wet

8:23am – Most roads are just wet. More snow in the forecast as the day rolls along.

8am – Video in Vilas

Old 421 between University Nissan and the Food Lion (on the north side of 421) is getting pretty slick. Is covered by snow in most spots and as of 8:45am had not been plowed.

9:28am – whiteout conditions are still occurring with this latest round of snow and wind

9:29am – roads around the county have gotten worse with this new wave of snow

Howard's Creek Rd is now covered. 4 inches on the ground.

9:39am – Snow reports from Avery County and points south from NWS

9:43am – via twitter – @WataugaRoads white out conditions in Blowing Rock. Roads are covered, but passable. Everyone seems to be using caution. #HWY321

9:46am – via twitter – old 421 around Roby Green is really slick

9:54am – Watauga County Sheriffs office is advising against travel

10:38am – Watauga County Sheriffs office is advising US Hwy 321N and Beaver Dam community seem to be especially hard hit. Avoid if possible until DOT can make headway.

10:55am – Historical Fact: almost 19 years to the week – the Blizzard '93 that dumped 30+ inches of snow in High Country.

11:27am – slushy on 105 from Linville through Foscoe to Boone. Slow going in parts.

12noon – sun starting to come out in Valle Crucis

12:13pm – All Advisories for winter weather have now expired for the High Country. Wind Advisory is still in effect until 4pm, 7pm for Avery
