LENOIR, NC (October 24, 2017 1 pm UPDATE) – Downed trees, flood damage, blocked roads, broken power poles and downed lines in remote locations are challenges Blue Ridge Energy line technicians continue battling to restore power to over 3,000 members today.
Over 12,000 members were affected by yesterday’s tornado-like conditions that also saw six inches of rain create flooding in some locations. As of noon Tuesday, crews continue in full force to repair damage and restore power to over 3,000 remaining without power.
While system and area damage is extensive, most of the outages should be restored by tonight. Members can be assured that Blue Ridge Energy crews are working around the clock until all members are restored with power.
A detailed look at outages in each of Blue Ridge Energy’s service areas since the start of the storm is provided:
Alleghany District: As of noon, 2,202 members are still without power after a high of 4,975 were affected beginning at 8:34 a.m. Monday. A total of 38 system locations were damaged, affecting primarily the areas of Glad Valley, Shawtown, Roaring Gap, High Meadows, South Sparta and Ennice.
Caldwell District: Currently, 797 members remain without power after a high of 4,162 were impacted beginning at 8:08 a.m. Monday. Damage occurred to 65 different locations affecting the Dudley Shoals, Oak Hill, Grace Chapel, and the Green Mountain Park areas.
Watauga District: Currently 16 members are awaiting restoration after a high of 3,251 were affected starting at 6:28 a.m. Monday after 44 different locations were damaged. Areas primarily impacted were Watauga River, Sherwood Deep Gap, Shulls Mill, and Hound Ears.
Ashe District: All outages were restored as of 10:15 p.m. Monday after 3,870 members were impacted beginning at 3:22 a.m. Monday. Damage occurred to 16 different system locations, affecting primarily the areas of Creston, Warrensville, and Baldwin areas as well as the Northwestern part of Ashe County near the Virginia state line.
