A portion of Elk Creek Road will be closed until roughly 3pm as officials tow a fire truck after an accident this morning. The accident happen just after 10am this morning (Monday) when a Stewart Simmons Fire Department fire truck ran off an embankment. The driver was taken to Watauga Medical Center for observation according to a published report. Due to the narrow conditions of Elk Creek Road officials are closing it until towing efforts are complete.
UPDATE 3:26pm – According to scanner dispatch the road will still be closed, possibly only one lane, until roughly 4:30pm.
UPDATE 3:49pm – One lane of the road is open.
UPDATE 4:35pm – both lanes are back open according to scanner dispatch.
