Last Updated on February 5, 2019 5:36 pm

The High Country gets a break from bitterly cold temperatures and wintry precipitation this week before the next cooldown begins this weekend.

High temperatures nearly reached the 60s again today in Boone, after topping out at 61 on Monday. Forecast highs for Wednesday are in the upper 50s.

A bounce back into the 60s on Thursday could approach record-setting marks. The record high for Boone on February 7 is 61 and was set in 2017.

The National Weather Service says that temperatures this weekend will be in the range of 40s for highs and 20s-30s for lows.

Though there is no mention of wintry precipitation, the chance for rain comes back into the weather picture starting on Wednesday. 50% chance for Wednesday, 40% for Wednesday night, 50% chance for Thursday night and Friday and down to 40% for Sunday through Monday at least.
