To better accommodate the volume of motorists traveling for the Easter holiday, the N.C. Department of Transportation is temporarily suspending lane closures along U.S. 321 in Blowing Rock. Any construction operations on the U.S. 321 widening project that could potentially impact motorists will also be avoided.
The temporary lane closure suspension will begin Thursday, April 17, at 6 a.m. and continue through Monday, April 21, at 6 p.m. Crews from contractor Maymead, Inc. will be working on the project during some of this time, weather permitting, but that work won’t require traffic control and should not impact holiday travel.
The speed limit along U.S. 321 in Blowing Rock is 35 mph, and the NCDOT reminds motorists to slow down and use caution when traveling through work zones as they may encounter crews working beside U.S. 321 or construction traffic crossing U.S. 321.
For additional information, please call the project information line at (828) 964-3260 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The project information line will not be available Friday, April 18. You can also visit the project website and follow the project's progress via Twitter (@NCDOT_EastMTN and #US321).
