N.C. 105 to Remain Closed in Watauga County through Friday evening

UPDATE Friday April 12 – The N.C. Department of Transportation has extended the closures of U.S. 321 and N.C. 105 until at least the evening of Sunday April 14. More information at this link.


BANNER ELK – N.C. 105 is expected to remain closed between Broadstone Road and Old Shulls Mill Road until at least tomorrow evening.

Contract crews for the N.C. Department of Transportation are clearing materials from the road and stabilizing the slopes adjacent to the roadway after a blasting operation earlier in the week.

Drivers are encouraged to utilize the following detour route from Boone to Avery County:

  • Take U.S. 321 to Lenoir
  • From Lenoir, take U.S. 64 to Morganton
  • From Morganton, take N.C. 181 to Pineola
  • From Pineola, take U.S. 221 to Linville

Message boards have been placed in key intersections to direct motorists.
