The Storm Prediction Center has placed the High Country in the marginal risk category for severe weather starting Friday.
According to the hazardous weather outlook from the National Weather Service (NWS), scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected Friday afternoon and evening as a cold front moves southeast into the area. A few of these are expected to become strong to severe, with damaging wind gusts the main threat, but locally heavy rainfall will be possible.
NWS also says that as the front lingers across North Carolina on Saturday, a few severe thunderstorms will be possible in the afternoon and evening.
