Boone, NC – The Boone Police Department is announcing the arrest of Corey Paul Connelly, 37 years of age, with no permanent address, by our detectives on February 26, 2025. This arrest follows reports of fraudulent activities by two hotels on February 19 and February 21, 2025.
An investigation revealed that Connelly, who was employed at a business, had illegally obtained financial information from clients. This resulted in the fraudulent use of stolen credit card information to obtain property valued at $34,216.03 from one hotel and an additional $26,407 from another hotel. Some financial information was illegally obtained from various businesses and individuals engaged in relief work following Hurricane Helene.
Connelly has been charged with two felonious counts of obtaining property by false pretense. Additionally, he has been charged with felonious possession of methamphetamine. Connelly was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are expected.
