Legends, the long-time entertainment venue on the App State campus, will be demolished.
The building was condemned after a sinkhole opened underneath the building due to Hurricane Helene. Demolition was approved by the UNC System Board of Governors during a recent meeting, according to Interim Chancellor Dr. Heather Norris.
“Legends holds special and long-standing memories for many of our current students, alumni and staff”, Dr. Norris wrote in part in her Friday newsletter update. “Our Student Affairs team continues to utilize existing space and is committed to honoring the building’s legacy for alumni and building new memories for current and future students.”, she also stated.
Legends began as a Winn-Dixie grocery store in 1965, according to App State's Special Collections Research Center. It was purchased by Appalachian State and converted into a nightclub for Appalachian students, named H'Appy's, in 1984. It was remodeled in 1988 and renamed Legends.
