Monday January 4
No traffic impacts and limited construction operations are currently scheduled today on 321 in Blowing Rock due to bitter cold temperatures and dangerous wind chill factors.
It is important to keep in mind that while construction operations have increased significantly along the future southbound lanes of 321 from the Food Lion Shopping Center to the Blowing Rock Furniture Galleries, this section of the project remains CLOSED to the public. Motorists and pedestrians attempting to travel along this section of the project as a short cut are at risk of coming into conflict with ground crews working on foot, construction equipment/materials and even construction debris, all of which could result in a serious accident. Please, help NCDOT keep you and construction crews safe by observing this closure.
12:53pm – So far no incoming reports of major travel issues related to the snow/cold. The Watauga County school system is reporting slick conditions in some locations and are releasing early.
2:57pm – received report that “105 Bypass is snow covered and very slick with some black ice in places.”
3:39pm – getting reports of delays on highway 105 heading into Boone due to slick conditions. Motorist says that DOT is treating the road.
Tuesday January 5
Limited construction operations are currently scheduled today on 321 in Blowing Rock due to bitter cold temperatures and dangerous wind chill factors. Sunset Drive will be closed today from Ransom Street to US 321 in order to place backfill material behind the curb & gutter. Through traffic traveling from the downtown area will be diverted at Ransom Street. Access to all businesses and homes located within the closure will be available. Motorists attempting to enter Sunset Drive from US 321 will be diverted as well.
Wednesday January 6
Flagging ops on 321 at Canyons in Blowing Rock. Concrete/asphalt ops scheduled at Woodlands BBQ, Holiday Inn, Foggy Rock.
