Summer-like temperatures were in full force on Friday as Boone recorded the hottest day of the year so far. The Watauga Medical Center reporting station topped out at 84 degrees, marking the first time high temperatures have been 84 or above since August 28, 2021…265 days ago.
It was also the first 80 degree or higher temperature for May 2022, though Wednesday got close at 77.2 degrees and Thursday at 77.5.

Of note that official Boone weather records rely on three different sources. Boone COOP station 310977 was used from 1929-1980 and Boone 1Se 310982 from June 1980-present for temperatures, rainfall and snowfall. Watauga Medical Center reporting station KTNB is used for wind speeds.
