High Winds Lead To Power Outages In High Country Overnight Into Sunday Morning

Portions of the High Country continue to be impacted by power outages after strong winds toppled trees Saturday night and into Sunday morning.

As of 9:35am, a total of 56 Blue Ridge Energy members were without power across the entire service area.

On Saturday night Watauga had 2 circuit outages affecting nearly 1,800 members, according to Renee Whitener with Blue Ridge Energy. The first outage was reported at 8:43pm and widespread outages were reported in the  Sherwood, Blowing Rock, Hound Ears, Bamboo and Deep Gap areas.

In Ashe the first outages were reported at 9:07pm, with a total of 235 members impacted with widespread outages in Beaver Creek, Warrensville, Creston, Shatley Springs, and Baldwin areas.

In Alleghany the first outages were reported at 10:56pm with a total of 112 members impacted, with widespread outages in Glade Valley, Magnolia, Sparta, and Ellis areas.
