As the snowstorm that impacted the area over the weekend started to move in, motorists by and large took the advice of local and state officials to avoid travel. Officials began warning the public as early as mid week that significant snow and high winds would cause travel issues.

From Friday through Sunday the Boone Police Department logged 7 accidents, compared to the 16 during the Wednesday January 20 snow event. The Watauga County Sheriff's office responded to several stranded vehicles during the storm. Those vehicles were logged and flagged by measures set out in the Quick Clearance Law  and the State of Emergency enacted by the Governor. The Department also responded to at least 16 stranded motorist over the weekend.

Figures from the North Carolina Highway Patrol for Watauga County were not readily available on Monday afternoon.
