Gas prices across the High Country held at $3.79 per gallon this week — unchanged from last Sunday and the second consecutive week without a local increase.
Here's where prices stand as of Monday morning, April 27, 2026:
- Boone Area (Regular): $3.79/gallon
- Diesel (Local Low): $5.48/gallon (Speedway, Banner Elk)
- Diesel (Most Boone Stations): $5.79/gallon
- North Carolina Average: $3.86/gallon
- National Average: $4.04/gallon
Local prices have held at $3.79 since our last report on Sunday, April 19, following a peak of $3.89 per gallon in early April at the height of the U.S.-Iran conflict. Diesel showed some continued easing, with the local low dropping to $5.48 at the Speedway in Banner Elk — down from $5.57 last week. Most Boone-area diesel stations remain at $5.79.
Prices remain significantly elevated compared to a year ago. The national average stood at $3.10 per gallon on April 27, 2025 — meaning drivers are paying roughly 94 cents more per gallon today than they were twelve months ago.
