Gas prices in the High Country continue to fall, with the county low for regular unleaded dropping to $3.54 per gallon at Harris Teeter on Blowing Rock Road — down 23 cents from last Tuesday's area low of $3.77 and the lowest local price seen in well over a year.
Quality Plus locations in Blowing Rock and on Calloway Road in Boone are at $3.59, and Exxon on Blowing Rock Road is at $3.66. Most Boone-area stations are ranging from $3.66 to $3.69, with Sheetz, BP, and multiple Speedway locations all at $3.69.
The North Carolina average stands at $3.783 per gallon, according to AAA — down from $3.921 last week. The national average is $4.161 per gallon, down from $4.290 last week. AAA noted this week that the national gas average has dropped nearly 20 cents in one week.
Diesel prices are also continuing to ease. The county's diesel low is $4.92 per gallon at the Speedway in Banner Elk. Most Boone-area stations are ranging from $5.13 to $5.16 for diesel, down from the $5.19 to $5.49 range seen last week.
Despite five consecutive weeks of declines, prices remain above last year. AAA puts North Carolina's year-ago regular average at $2.796 per gallon — meaning drivers are still paying about 99 cents more per gallon than this time in 2025.
