Grandfather Mountain Welcomes Two New Eagles

Last Updated on April 9, 2013 5:48 pm

Grandfather Mountain's two newest habitat members arrived at the nature park in Linville, NC on Friday March 22. The male and female bald eagles come from a rehabilitation center in Nebraska where they were deemed unable to survive in the wild. Both eagles are able to fly. The male (pictures attached) has neurological damage and is missing his right eye. The female is blind in her left eye.

Both eagles will be off display for the next few weeks to get familiar and comfortable with the sights and sounds of Grandfather Mountain and as the eagle habitat renovations are finished up. The eagles are expected to be on display in the new eagle habitat sometime in mid to late April.

The Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation has plans underway for a naming contest in early April for the two eagles.
