High Country residents and visitors are noticing the appearance of drift smoke in the area this afternoon. The smoke is coming from the White Creek Fire in the Linville Gorge. As of Thursday the fire was estimated at 4,300 acres and 80% contained.
The good news is rain is in the forecast starting Saturday night and the rest of the weekend, which should help with both the fire and drift smoke. Until then people with difficulty breathing are urged to stay inside if possible.
