A former deputy, most recently for Caldwell County, is accused of impersonation an officer after an incident in Watauga County.

Timothy Wilson, age 56 of Vilas, was arrested on April 18 and charged with impersonation a law enforcement officer, according to multiple media reports. The charge comes after an incident on April 14 where Wilson is accused of pulling over a female motorist on Highway 421 west of Boone. Wilson was in a pickup with an operating red light, according to the reports.

The arrest warrant, according to media reports, says that Wilson approached the vehicle, yelled at the driver and demanded her driver's license. He falsely represented himself to the driver that he was a sworn law enforcement officer, according to the reports.

He was released on a written promise and is scheduled to appear in court on May 24.

Wilson most recently worked as a deputy in Caldwell County from late 2017 until he was terminated on April 6 of this year. He had also previously worked as a deputy in Watauga County.
