The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a
- Flash Flood Warning for…
Southeastern Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina… - Until 715 PM EDT.
- At 122 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain
have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are
possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected
to begin shortly.
HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE…Radar.
IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

This includes the following streams and drainages…
Flat Branch, Dugger Creek, Elk Creek, South Fork Laurel Creek,
Left Prong Stony Fork, South Fork New River, Stony Fork, Fall
Creek and Little Dugger Creek.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather
Service by calling toll free at 1…8 6 6…2 1 5…4 3 2 4. Reports
