The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* Flood Warning for…
Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina…

* Until 845 AM EDT.

* At 254 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
heavy rain has exited the warned area, leaving only light rain
showers. However, flooding continues in local creeks and rivers
due to between 3 and 6 inches of rain that fell earlier in the
night. Localized flooding is expected to persist through late this
morning before coming to an end.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Boone, Blowing Rock, Beech Mountain, Sugar Grove, Foscoe, Todd and
Deep Gap.

This includes the following streams and drainages…
Brushy Fork, Elk Creek, George Gap Branch, Beech Creek, Beaverdam
Creek, Flat Branch, Crab Orchard Creek, Cove Creek, Fall Creek,
Dugger Creek, Dutch Creek and the Watauga River.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
