The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

  • Flash Flood Warning for…
    Alleghany NC County in northwestern North Carolina…
    Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina…
    Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina…
    Wilkes County in northwestern North Carolina…
  • Until 300 PM EDT Friday.
  • At 701 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
    thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between
    5 and 10 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts
    of 3 to 5 inches are possible in the warned area. Additional
    amounts as high as 6 to 9 inches could be possible across Watauga
    and Ashe Counties. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
    shortly.

HAZARD…Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms
producing flash flooding.

IMPACT…Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

Beech Creek, Big Bugaboo Creek and Basin Creek.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather
Service by calling toll free at 1…8 6 6…2 1 5…4 3 2 4. Reports
and pictures can also be shared on the National Weather Service
