The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a

  • Flash Flood Warning for…
    West central Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina…
  • Until 1145 PM EDT
  • At 743 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
    heavy rain across the warned area. Up to three inches of rain have
    already fallen between Beech Mountain and Rominger. Flash flooding
    is expected to begin shortly especially near Laurel Creek.
  • Some locations that will experience flooding include…
    Boone…
    Beech Mountain…
    Sugar Grove…
    Beech Mountain In Avery County…
    and Rominger.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the
warned area.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
