Early morning snow has lead to several wrecks and the cancellation of local schools system today.
Watauga County Schools cancelled classes, marking the first time a day has been missed in December in 6 years. Avery County Schools also called off classes.
Several wrecks were reported via scanner traffic. Incoming reports via social media also noted the deteriorating conditions during the 7am and 8am hours.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from noon until 4pm Saturday. The National Weather Service says 2 to 4 inches of snow is possible. Wind gusts between 35 to 45 mph will be possible Saturday through Sunday, with wind chills below zero.
