Lincolnton, NC – A Denver, NC woman has been charged with embezzlement from two companies based in Boone, NC.
On September 16, 2024, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office took a report for the embezzlement of monies from the companies. The offender and former employee of the companies, Cynthia Lynn Howell of Twin River Drive, Denver, NC, worked remotely.
She is accused of writing numerous fraudulent checks which were deposited into bank accounts not associated with the businesses. The case was assigned to LCSO Detective C. Estrada of the Criminal Investigations Division for further investigation.
After a four-month long investigation, charges were pursued against Howell for two counts for felony embezzlement over $100,000. The investigation revealed that the amount embezzled from the two companies was more than $400,000.
On January 16, 2025, Howell was taken into custody for the charges and issued a $25,000 secured bond.
