The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Virginia issued the following Hazardous Weather Outlook at 2:39 a.m. Monday for north central and northwest North Carolina, including Watauga County, along with central, south central, southwest and west central Virginia and southeast West Virginia:
Counties covered: Ashe, Alleghany, Surry, Stokes, Rockingham, Caswell, Watauga, Wilkes and Yadkin in North Carolina; Tazewell, Smyth, Bland, Giles, Wythe, Pulaski, Montgomery, Grayson, Carroll, Floyd, Craig, Alleghany, Bath, Roanoke, Botetourt, Rockbridge, Patrick, Franklin, Bedford, Amherst, Henry, Pittsylvania, Campbell, Appomattox, Buckingham, Halifax and Charlotte in Virginia; and Mercer, Summers, Monroe, and Eastern and Western Greenbrier in West Virginia.
Day One… Today and Tonight
There is a risk of excessive rainfall from storms this afternoon that may cause localized flooding, especially west of the Blue Ridge.
Days Two Through Seven… Tuesday Through Sunday
An increased risk of severe storms due to damaging winds and localized flash flooding from heavy rainfall exists during Tuesday and Wednesday. The greatest risk is west of the Blue Ridge.
