Death on Beech Mountain being investigated

UPDATE Friday November 19 5:29 pm from Beech Mountain Police Chief Tim Barnett:

The Beech Mountain Police and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation have been investigating the death of Betsy Dellinger as reported on November 12, 2021. As a result of the investigation, Levi Hicks of Elk Park, North Carolina, age 33, has been charged with 1 count of Murder, 1 count of Felony Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, and 1 count of Felony Possession of Methamphetamine. Hicks is currently being held by the Carter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center in Elizabethton TN on unrelated charges. He is presently awaiting extradition back to North Carolina.


The investigation into the discovery of a body on Beech Mountain is continuing. The Beech Mountain Police Department (BMPD) is investigating the death, that was discovered on Friday, after receiving a call around 3:35 p.m. about an unresponsive woman at Upper Holiday Lane. Officers discovered a white female aged 40-45 years old.

The woman, identified as Betsy Dillinger, was deceased and transported to Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville. The cause of death “appears to be by non-accidental means and the matter is under investigation.” according to BMPD.
